2 Peter 1:5
“Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;”
What cause is Peter referring to? Verse four ended with the fact that we have become partakers of His divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. The topics of that verse were done the past few days.
We are partakers of His nature. How amazing is that?! We have been born again and thus have become his offspring. This is an incredible privilege. It’s like being born in a a great family. We now have access to God and His resources. We get His attention. Whatever nurturing we didn’t receive as a child, we can get from Him.
We should want to be diligent in this process. God and His grace are amazing. It’s all done by and through faith, but it works. He fills our hearts with joy and our lives with blessings. We get the comfort of His presence. We should want more of Him. Lord, help us to be more diligent in doing so.
The second reason from verse four is that we’ve escaped the corruption of the world. We’ve been rescued. We’ve been beat up and dragged down by sin. We’ve damaged relationships and felt the temptation trap. These things have a gravitation pull downward. Our lives become a mess. Jesus has released us from this prison.
We should pursue this freeing path diligently. Unfortunately, we some times go back and dabble in the sin that enslaved us. Lord, have mercy on us. Help us to walk Your freeing path with gratitude and vigor.
