His Many Promises

2 Peter 1:4
“For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”

We have all been promised things. Childhood comes to mind. A parent promises a Disneyland trip. That promise can bring us through weeks and months of bad weather, drudgery and boredom. That promise lifts us.

God has promised us salvation. It actually begins when we accept Christ. His regenerating work. But He promises us Heaven. In it is no sorrow or pain. The joys of earth are faded and cheap in comparison. This promise removes the heavy fear of death. Thank You, Lord.

There are many of promises in the bible. Some have to do with gaining victories in this life. We have daily struggles. Romans 8:37 promises that we will be “more than conquerors through Him who loves us.” Our situation might seem hopeless. Our inner state may be distressed. We look to Him in prayer. He promises to help.

He delivers us time and again. The lows don’t get to be that low. We know He will lift us up and use that situation for our good. Such comfort.

He created all of us with gifts and talents. He promises to perfect and use us for His glory. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…”

He promises to guide us. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'” He built us to be purposeful. We get satisfaction from tasks. Particularly when they match our passion. He works on our desire and skill simultaneously.

He promises to mold and fill our passions. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” This means He gives us new passions and fills them.

Lord, Your promises make life hopeful and good. Thank You for all You do for us. You are the greatest gift of all.
