2 Peter 1:4
“For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”
“For by these He has granted…”. God’s giving nature is a huge part of His character and actions. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave…”
He gives us all patience. It’s taken a long time for many of us to come to Him. Once we’re His it takes time for us to trust Him or to learn particular lessons. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “…but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
There are thousands of things that God does for us that either we don’t think about or we’re not aware of. He keeps us alive, our organs function, He keeps us from evil, He puts blessings in our way, the beauty of nature, the kindness of people and so on. His nature is inclined to give. He’s the author of giving. It’s what He does.
He wants us to follow His example. Sin has turned us inward to become self serving. We have to teach our children to give. It takes time. He pours His generosity in our hearts.
He gives us much incentive to give. He promises to return to us multiple times that which we have given, (Malachi 3:10). He wants us to emulate His nature. We are to be givers, also.
Part of what He gives us is a new inner experience: peace in our hearts, the confirmation that we are His and a “joy inexpressible and full of glory”, This is why Ephesians 5:18 says to not be filled with wine, but with the Spirit. The happiness that is sought by substances, God promises to give. It’s like a mini high.
Lord, we are grateful for Your giving nature. You have and continue to give unto us. Help us to be givers as well.
