Deuteronomy 8:18
“But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
In part I, the focus was on God’s power to get out of sin. The emphasis of part II was God’s power for the good. He does wonderful things in and through us.” Today’s focus will be on our part in how we spend our days, present and future Do we have any choices? Yes.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” While this is a small verse, it’s packed with meaning. What jumps out is The Lord giving us our hearts desires. Most of us can dream up big things. Will God really give those to us? Let’s see.
The condition of this verse is that we delight ourselves in Him. What does that mean? We do what He says, basic obedience. He honors this and we begin to love His ways.
Next comes the desires of our hearts. This has a double meaning. As we follow Him, He gives us new desires. The things we once wanted may have changed. We may have wanted power, wealth and fame. Our reasons may have been egotistical. God has a way of weeding those things out. God wants to honor and bless us, but not in a selfish way. Those old desires get cleaned up.
A young person starting out in life has career/life goals. God wants to be involved there. It doesn’t mean we have to join the ministry. He gifts us all differently. Growing in self awareness is helpful. To know our strengths and our passions takes time. We may not even know what those are. As we try things we often learn what they aren’t. As we follow Christ, He’ll help us in this process.
Lord, thank You for Your power and Your ways. You are worthy to be trusted
