Deuteronomy 8:9
“a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig copper.”
Verse eight spoke of The Lord leading them into a fruitful land. Verse nine speaks of it’s bounty and wealth of resources. This is analogous to the spiritual wealth of the areas of life He provides us.
Why does it not always feel like it? When we come to Christ, we usually don’t understand what we are buying into. We want salvation and we want His help. We’re often not aware that He wants to guide us. He has a plan for our lives. He sees our gifts and talents and He wants to use them.
However, we often want to do our own thing. Another possibility is that we desire to do part of His will and part of ours. Proverbs 14:14 says, “The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied with his.” When we live like this we don’t feel that life is blessed. The potential for it is there, but because we are doing our own plan it’s not blessed.
Proverbs 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” As we walk with Christ and yield to Him we begin to love the things that He loves. Our plans that aren’t of Him begin to wither. He gives us new desires and He fills them. This is the land of bounty. David says “My cup runneth over” (Ps 23).
It’s an easy test as to whether we are living in this land of bounty: does it feel like it? If not we may be full of our own agenda. Ask the question, “Lord, is this Your will?” Learn to keep a light touch on things. Don’t want something so much that we can’t imagine giving it up.
Lord, thank You for Your provision. Help us to yield to Your ways.
