1 Peter 4:8
Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.”
I can recall a song from my youth, “They will know we are christians by our love.” This was Jesus’ commandment, “Love one another, just as I have loved you.”
The second part of the verse says that “love covers a multitude of sins”. Jesus’ blood and sacrifice paid for our sins, but it was His love that prompted all of it.
How tolerant are we? Are we irritable? If so, the slightest things bother us. At times we get there. We are to lean on The Lord. He will fill us.
Malachi 3:10 speaks of giving when we are reluctant. We often don’t feel we have enough. God prompts us to give in spite of that. He promises to bless us. He says He will give us a return that is overflowing. It may not be in the same area, but we will be full.
Peter asked Jesus how much we are to forgive, seven times?. Jesus answered, “seventy times seven”.
We should be seen as generous with our time and affection. People sense if we are. We can be this way regardless of temperament type. One can be quiet and more reserved, yet be generous with resources.
Lord, thank You for Your love. That it’s covered our sins. Help us to be the same way.
