1 Peter 3:12
“FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS,
AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER,
BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.”
“His ears attend to our prayers.” What a wonderful image. He is eagerly desiring us to ask. I picture the old days of radio theater. The family would gather in the living room and wait for the show to begin. Once started they would lean in with rapt attention. God attends to us.
I think most of us have a difficult time believing the attention God gives us. We all seem to struggle with insecurities. In God, we have someone who loves us in spite of our weaknesses. He hurts for us, He supports us, He hopes for us.
We don’t live in a manner in which we believe He is all those things. We wouldn’t have doubts and insecurites, if we did. This is our lack of faith. We believe at some level, but not enough allow it give us comfort and gratitude. It’s like a one sided relationship. In which one person is into it, while the other is disinterested.
How can we do better? How can we increase our faith and grow in awareness of The Lord? Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” We grow in faith as we read and hear the bible. In the parable of the sower, Jesus compares the Word of God to seed (Matthew 13). As we read His Word, it’s planted in our hearts and grows. This is how our faith is strengthened.
Lord, thank You that You attend to us. Help us to appreciate that, rest in that and to engage in prayer.
