Help in Times of Trouble

Deuteronomy 2:36

“From Aroer which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon and from the city which is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was no city that was too high for us; the LORD our God delivered all over to us.”

As people, we have limited strength and ability. Bad circumstances can reduce that. Life can be overwhelming, relationships can be frustrating. The number of people seeking counseling or on meds due to these issues is high. Whatever they are doing isn’t working. They are reaching out for help.

Isaiah 40:30 says, “Though youths grow weary and tired. And vigorous young men stumble badly…” Young people in their early twenties (often beginning in the late teens) are under significant stress for what they are used to. They are adults (or approaching) and think they should be performing at a particular level or should have more direction. Illnesses and struggles often surface at this time due to that.

Everyone reaches for help in some maner. Many young people delve into drugs and other addictions due to that pressure. I felt stress in my late teens. The help that I reached out to was God.I responded to a gospel message, but didn’t know what to do with it. For months afterwards, my thoughts and conversations were very Godfilled. I responded to another message that was more directional. I began to seek The Lord.

Today’s passage speaks of the Israelites involved in the most difficult of tasks and succeeding. They were surprised. It was apparantly more than they thought they could do. They attributed that to The Lord. The next verse after the above Isaiah quote (40:30,31) is  “Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”

God in our lives is empowering. It’s amazing and hopeful. He helps us in our lives. All of the sudden, things are turning around. Unbeknownst to us, He navigates us through difficulties. Our faith grows as we experience His help.

Lord, thank You for Your assistance. We get hopeless and You show up. Thank You.
