Numbers 11:33,34 “While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague. So the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had been greedy.” God’s provision is wonderful. However, His gracious actions are to affect us for the good. Yet, some responded in greed. For that, they were punished. Jesus told a parable someone with a great debt who was tossed into prison. The king forgave him the debt. Yet, when the prisoner got out, he approached someone who owed him ten dollars. He tossed him into debtors prison until he payed up. The king was enraged. How could someone who was forgiven such a debt, be so ungrateful. So, the king renigged on his forgiveness and tossed him back into debtor’s prison. We don’t earn our forgiveness by our works, but they are an evidence that we’ve been forgiven. James 2:18b says, “I will show you my faith by my works.” Jesus said in Matthew 3:8, “Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance”. While we will fall short, we should be growing. We should be more trusting, gracious, forgiving and so on. Part of becoming a christian is to make Christ lord. This means we are submitting to the scriptures and following His guidance. If we aren’t, then we are severely backslidden or we aren’t a christian at all. Where are we being prompted today? In what areas are we to grow? We don’t do this our of fear. Yes, the people in today’s scripture died because of their greed. That isn’t how He ususally works today. He is a patient father. At times, we are scared rabbits. He know how to draw us out and will patiently do it. Lord, thank You for Your blessings. Help us to be grateful.
