Numbers 10:13 “So they moved out for the first time according to the commandment of the LORD through Moses.” God was directing the people. They were moving out. There was some order. If the pillar or the cloud moved, they were to move also. They were to go east or west based on the number of trumpet sounds. This was several million people, so it was a big deal. God directs us as well. The primary way is through the bible. We are to obey the Ten Commandments. We are to love one another and more. There is also a subjective guiding. Sometimes it’s through intuitions and impressions. Other times it’s circumstances guiding us. God can guide us through intuitions and impressions. These can’t contradict the bible. They are to be tested. We pray about them. Sometimes it lifts, other times it persists. 2 Peter 1:21 says, “for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” John 16:8 speaks of how the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin. Circumstances can guide us. Proverbs 3:5,6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” God will guide us. He does this because we are His child and because we ask Him for it. He does most of this without our knowledge. However, I do believe we have some part to play. Acts 16:6-10 describes how God directed Paul and his team. They tried to go to Asia (east), but the Holy Spirit forbid them. Then they tried to go north to Blythinia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them. Then Paul had a dream about a Macedonian man asking them to come (West to Europe). So Paul concluded that is where God wanted them to go. I believe God can direct us that way. It’s not often, nor is it with trivial things. But He is God and can do it as He pleases. Whenever things happen, I try to ask God to guide through it. It can take Him some time to get our attention. Gideon layed out a fleece to confirm God’s guidance (Judges 6:36). I rarely go the the fleece. Possibly every few years. Lord, thank You that You guide us. Help us through the process.
