Exodus 33:13 “Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight. Consider too, that this nation is Your people.”
There is a difference between positively asserting one’s self and selfishness. Moses wants to know God better. He takes this desire, turns it around and puts pressure on God. Very gutsy.
The first topic I want to address is wanting to know God. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has placed eternity in our hearts. There is a natural thirst for the spiritual/eternal. We are part spirit. We want to connect spiritually. He is the puzzle piece that fits our craving. It is good to seek Him.
The more we pursue Him, we gain contentment, yet a greater thirst for Him. This sounds like a contradiction. How can we become more content while we crave God more? What settles within us is the human anxiety. We really were made to be in relationship with God. Without Him, we don’t run properly. First off, He gives us His peace. It what comes when He is present. As we pursue Him, we get to know Him better. With that comes a secure relationship. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says that He gives us rest.
This new relationship is life-giving. We want more. That’s where the greater appetite comes in. David had a similar desire for God. Psalm 27:3 says, “One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.” God says of David in Act 13:22, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.

Moses pushed this desire for God further. He asked for big things. God wants us to pray and believe. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent widow. We are to keep praying.
Lord, thank You that You give us contentment and a God-thirst. Help us to pursue You more.
