Ephesians 6:15 “and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;”
I always seem to forget the meaning of this passage. In researching it is said to be part of our preparing for battle. The research further speaks of one’s footing as being foundational.
When it comes to foundation, I think of the line from the old hymn “My Hope Is Built”. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name.” What Jesus’ redemption did is make us right with God. Today’s passage speaks of the peace that comes from that relationship.

Our sin is forgiven. We are not at odds with heaven’s legal system. God looks upon us with favor. We are at peace with Him. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Because we are peace with God we can God’s throneroom with confidence. We won’t be expelled or told to wait. We are not only at peace, we have His favor.
There is another peace that we get from Jesus’ redemption. Colossians 3:15 says “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” We are not only at peace with God, He wants us to have the peace of God. The anxiety or anger that might reside within us can be calmed with His peace. Just as Jesus calmed the storm with a word, so He wants to put peace in all our hearts. This isn’t reserved for the special saints. As we walk with Him it is a basic accessory. And what a wonderful one that it is.
The Colossians passage says His peace is to rule in our hearts. This is our choice. As we live out our days, our conscience will remind us of things. If it’s of God and we choose selfishly, then that peace is eclipsed. We are warring within.
Today’s passage speaks of His peace. If we are to walk a solid christian life, avoiding the devil, then we need to access the above lessons. We are to utilize our relationship with Him. Enter the throne of grace and talk to Him. Let Him be part of our lives. The second topic is to let His peace reign in us. If we wrestle with obedience, we won’t have His peace. That’s how the devil wants us. Tied up in knots with selfishness and anxiety. Put on His peace. Just as we would lace us boots, decide to walk with Him, in obediance to Him.
Lord, thank You for Your peace. Help us to walk in a manner that we stay in it.
