God’s Guidance

Exodus 13:21-22
The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.”
God’s presence is wonderful. He guided the Hebrews with the cloud by day and the fire by night. This was visual. When either stopped, it was time to make camp. When it moved it was time to pack and go.
Does God do something similar for us? The primary way God guides is by the bible. That’s why it’s important to go to a bible teaching church. We are to also read it ourselves. Much like a child must learn to feed himself apart from his mother, so we are to read and receive God’s instructions.
Another way that God guides is with His presence. This is manifested by His peace. Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…” The peace of God is to rule in our hearts. This is like the cloud and the pillar to the Hebrews. While it’s not visible, we feel it. Not like an emotion, but peace in our spirits. It’s similar to our conscience, but it’s His presence in us. When we accept Christ’s forgiveness and let Him be lord, He forgives us and He lives in us. Our sin has seperated God from us. Once we’re reconciled, we have that peace we were meant to have.
How do we let His peace rule in our hearts. Our actions can make our conscience accuse us or pat us on the back. So our actions can eclipse God’s peace. The bible is always the first authority. God’s peace helps personalize the written commands.
Lord, thank You for Your guidance. Thank You that Your peace is with us.
