Exodus 8:28
Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Make supplication for me.”
Pharaoh is in a desperate situation. He knows he needs God’s help. We all get to these points. Situations are grim and we know that there could be many different outcomes. Some of which are very bad. We could greatly use God’s help. It’s a wonderful thing to go to others and ask for prayer. There is power in prayer and there is more power when many are praying. Matt 18:20 says, 20“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” God promises special power, as well as a special presence, when people are gathered in His name. Having many pray isn’t a gathering, but it’s a united purpose focused on God’s power. James 5:16 says, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” We are told to pray for one another. Some feel like God wants them to be self sufficient. Much like a parent is pleased when a needy child gains self sufficiency. Yes, God’s wants us to be confident people, but Paul said he “prayed without ceasing” 1 Thess 5:17. God wants us to always be reliant on Him. We should be sending prayers up all day long. For example, “Lord, give me wisdom here” or “give me favor there” or “I need Your favor with this person”. God has the power and He wants to give it. God is generous and He is blessed when He gives. To deny prayer is to limit His joy with You. It’s even better to realize that if you are “in Christ”, He is in you and walking beside you. He is personal. Engage Him. It’s also important to thank Him. So, when people ask us to pray for them, do it. It’s good for us to get the focus off ourselves. We don’t have to wait for others to ask, we can ask them if we can pray for them. We can develop and intercessory prayer life, inwhich we pray for others regularly. This scripture is a unbelierver asking for prayer. That’s a big deal. honor that by fervant prayer. Lord, thank You for prayer and thank You that You want to be so involved in our lives.
