Hebrews 12;15
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled
This is a warning in scripture. Plenty fall short of the grace of God by not seeking it. They want nothing to do with Him. This passage is refering to a person in the christian community. This person is religious. There is a referrence to “a root of bitterness”. This is a result of this type of person. They spread discord. Now all of us go through hard times in our lives, inwhich we are bitter and we pass it on to those around us. That would be sin inwhich God will convict us and we’ll move on from that. This person was never fully regenerated. Jesus told the parable of the sower. Speaking about one type of soil, He said, “and the one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word, and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away” Matt 13:20,21. This passage indicates that a person can have an experience with God, yet it hasn’t matured into becoming a child of God. It’s like a miscarriage. Hebrews 6:5,6 speaks of this: the person has “tasted of the good word of God and the powers of the age to come”. This person was never a Christian. Some believers may come under guilt for spreading bitterness. The fact that the person has remorse is a sign that they aren’t an apostate. What are we to do? 2 Peter 1:10 says, “be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you…” Avoid these things. Don’t participate in the deeds of darkness spoken of in Galatians 5:19-21. This doesn’t mean we are working for our salvation. We are already His child. Therefore, we are to act like it.
Lord, keep us away from the things contrary to You.
