Hebrews 11:23
By faith Moses when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
This reminds me of youthful enthusiasm. When things are done, regardless of consequences. Usually the older folks know enough to stay away. I don’t know what the consequences where for disobeying the law; probably prison time. As the months went by, the penalties were getting more severe. It was also getting harder to hide an infant. They cry at inconvenient times. They couldn’t bear killing their own child, so they sent it down the river in a basket. They may have intentionally have done it for the princess of Egypt to find it.
There are times when we exercise civil disobedience. The disciples in Acts kept on preaching when the authorities commanded them not to. They responded something like, “Do you think we should obey God or man. As for the gospel, it must be preached.”
I think of the christians that evangelize where it’s forbidden. There is presently a pastor in jail in Iran. That’s faith. Lord, please protect that man. Also, glorify Your name in the process. Let many come to faith due to his faith. Allow us to have such faith. In our country, it is increasingly socially unpopular to speak biblical morals. That will probably become the line at which persecution starts; not because they are christians, but because of particular stances.
The idea isn’t to speak out without cause. That’s youthful enthusiasm. There has to be a victim; baby Moses. Lord, give us wisdom and faith. There was a point at which Moses’ mother complied. Was she being shrewd as a serpent, as Jesus advised? Was it a plan she had to allow the child to be found by a sympathetic person in power? That’s smart. Lord, give us wisdom.
