“Where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Talk about the green mile, the walk the death row inmates make to their place of execution. This visitation that Jesus makes was His atoning for our sins with His own blood. His walk up the Via Dolorosa through the jeering crowds was symbolically going up the isle of the temple, like the priests of His day would do in the literal sanctuary. Calvary’s was the altar where He, the lamb, would be sacrificed. Abraham was brought to this same place long ago to sacrifice his son. God called that off. But it was analogous as to what would happen as God the Father would sacrifice His son.
He didn’t need someone to lead Him by force. That was settled the night before in the Garden when He said, “Not my will, but thine be done.” He came out of devotion to us.
He entered within the veil, into the Holy of Holies. While the priests did this in the literal temple, Jesus’ blood was put on the altar in the actual presence of God. This forever gives us access to God.
While the priests would do this duty once a year, it was all a model of what Jesus would do. The City of Jerusalem with all the stops that Jesus took, mirror the actions of the high priest. However, Jesus’ sacrifice would end the need for sacrifices. The veil was supernaturally ripped in two when Jesus died. Access to God is forever available.
Jesus, thank You for your sacrifice. Help us to visit their often.
