Shade in the Desert

Numbers 10:34 “The cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp.” The cloud of The Lord was protective in this instance. The desert sun was punishing. People die due to the harsh exposure. It was His will that they were there. He made it bearable by providing shade. We also can find ourselves in difficult environments. It may be a work setting, neighborhood setting. It may be in a financially lean time. It could be a time of poor health. Our loved ones may be having difficulty. There are a myriad of situations that are taxing. People develop mental disorders because of them. God will provide the shade to make these times bearable. God will help us in these times. Jesus says in Matthew 11:29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.” It will still be difficult. There is a yoke. There is work to be done. We will grow tired from it. We may even question Him from time to time. The desert is difficult even in the shade. However, it will be tolerable. God will use the desert to work on our character. He led them to that place. He wanted them to learn to trust Him wherever they were guided. We will find oursleves in difficult places. Some feel hostile. Some last much longer than we are comfortable with. I can recall feeling unfairly treated. The moves I made to correct the situation made it worse. Trusting was difficult. Almost like quicksand; my movements made it worse. I sunk deeper. As I sought justice, it got worse. Fear and anger were prominant. I wanted justice. I wasn’t allowing God’s peace to rule and reign in my heart. His shade is present. We need to stay under it. Lord, thank You for Your shade. Help us to stay under it. Help us to trust You when we are in Sinai.
