1 Peter 5:3
“neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.”
This passage is to the elders. They are to be shepherds of their flock. The other day, it was discussed that this was to be done willingly. Today, they are charged to be examples unto the people. This can apply to all of us, as we are examples to those around us.
Jesus said that we are the light(s) of the world. We have the good news. We are to share it. His mission was mainly to train the twelve and to die for our sins. It’s our job to spread it. Part of that is to be a good example.
How do we do this? We live life in a christlike manner. We all go through frustrations. God goes through those times with us. We will get panicked, anxious and angry. That’s not wrong. It’s what we do with that.
This doesn’t mean we put on a false smile. It’s ok to be distressed. We aren’t being genuine if we try to hide our grief. God will guide us through it. Psalm 23 says “even though I walk through the valley of death, Thou art with me.”
Philipians tells us to trust Him and His peace fills our hearts. Even though we don’t have a resolution to our problems, He gives us His peace. Also, when it’s all don He works it out for our best (Romans 8:28). It may not be how we imagined, yet as we trust and follow His guidance, it’ll be good.
This is a great example to those around us. Some of them may also feel the pressure. Peter tells us to share the reason for the hope that’s in us (1 Peter 3:15). What those around us have witnessed (our attitude) will give the message credence.
Lord, thank You that You are with us in all stages of life. Help us to be good examples.
