Esther 9:20-22
“Then Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, obliging them to celebrate the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same month, annually, because on those days the Jews rid themselves of their enemies, and it was a month which was turned for them from grief into joy, and from mourning into a holiday; that they were to make them days of feasting and rejoicing, and sending portions of food to one another, and gifts to the poor.”
Thus a holiday was born, Purim. It celebrates the jews being able to defend themselves and destroy their enemies by the king’s edict. It was supposed to be the other way around. Haman tricked the king into allowing him and others to legally kill jews. God used Mordecai and Esther to inform the king of Haman’s trickery. So, the king gave the right to the jews to defend themselves. It grew into a movement and many supported the jews to help.
Once again God rescued His people. He has done it many times. He does it for us as individuals. He often does it unbeknown to us. Maybe He causes us to be a little late and by doing so we were spared an auto accident.
Other times we are quite aware. We might see it and pray for deliverance. God comes through and rescues us. It might not happen in the way we might hope. But He saves in His time.
God elevated Mordecai. Esther 9:3,4 says, “Even all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and those who were doing the king’s business were supporting the Jews, because the dread of Mordecai had fallen on them. For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and the news about him spread throughout the provinces; for the man Mordecai became greater and greater.” He was faithful in the small things and God elevated and used him in big things. He is reminiscent of Daniel.
Thank You for Your deliverances God. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” That’s awesome. Thank You.
