I Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you except something common to mankind; and God is faithful, so He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Such a great promise. I can recall being young in Christ afraid I wouldn’t make it. Calling out in our dark living room. That was around 44 years ago. He has kept me. At that time, I was troubled. “Will I make it?”
He has faithfully brought me here. It was this promise. I stumbled and confessed. He has kept me.
Some have addictions and strong struggles. He has the power to keep them. He is faithful and true. Romans 8:31-35 shares His desire to keep us in Him, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring charges against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, but rather, was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or trouble, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” His point is nothing can separate us from Him.
We don’t need to fear. The great Comforter and protector, the Holy Spirit, will keep us from evil.
Why do some fall away? Did God fail to keep them? No. Some don’t want to stay in Him. The parable of the sower has three of the four soils that fail. The world, the flesh and the devil make the Word of God inhospitable. The cares of the world choke off His Word. The flesh seeks to satisfy itself contrary to His Word and the devil deceives and tricks us. He steals the seed of His Word. The good soil fears God and treasures His Word.
Lord, help us to love Your Word and keep ourselves in it. Thank You that You keep us from temptation.
