God Causes the Growth

I Corinthians 3:7

“So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.”

The corinthians are having childish arguments and divisions. Our last entry in corinthians we addressed how Paul wants them to put those things aside and press on to maturity. Today Paul passes on another good truth, it’s all God. We have our heroes and those who motivate us. That’s fine, but God gifts them and blesses them. Paul admits that here.

God wants us to grow deep in a relationship with Him. In doing so He will use us. Jesus’ prayer says, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done”. He will build His kingdom and be Lord in our lives, then do the same with those around us.

Acts 4:13 is a great example of this, “Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.” That’s awesome. God takes us ordinary people and uses us. It’s Him. He builds the confidence in us through His Holy Spirit and uses us.

We know it’s Him doing theses things through us. The Sermon on the Mount describes the attitude of the believer, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the gentle, the merciful” and so on. Those aren’t the traits of proud people. We all know it’s Him, we praise Him, we walk with Him and He uses us. We don’t get into petty things, but walk with Him in love.

What an honor Lord, to know use and to be used by You. Thank You.
