Joshua 5:11,12
“Then on the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and roasted grain. And the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land, so that the sons of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate some of the yield of the land of Canaan during that year.”
This was a forty year long, daily miracle. To these that grew up with it, they probably didn’t realize it until it stopped. It was a daily occurrence to them. They learned from the other nations that it was only with them and then the reality hit them. We look back at this and are in awe. Daily nourishment falling from heaven every morning. It had conditions. Moses told them to only take enough for the day. They disobeyed and hoarded more, but it would rot as they were warned.
Their awe dissipated because of the consistency. It shouldn’t. This was a miracle. As christians we experience the continual blessing of the Holy Spirit. We have the sense of His presence, the peace that passes understanding, His empowerment and His guidance. This is not normal, but it’s a way of life. We get comfortable with it and lose the sense of wonder. We shouldn’t. This is amazing. We need to have an attitude of thankfulness. Don’t get so comfortable that we lose the awe.
Lord, You are so good to us, especially Your children. Everyone receives the blessing of life and nature. It’s great. Unfortuntely sin soured the experience. Unbelievers don’t have God’s peace and the presence of the Holy Spirit. There’s angst and unease. Some describe it as a God shaped hole that only He can fill. He reaches out to them and He uses believers to reach them.
For Your children You shower them with love. That’s because we’ve been forgiven and open ourselves up to You and Your love. You spoils us. We do get hard times, because they mature us. God has a purpose for us and works in our lives.
Lord, thank You for the miracles You work in our lives. The giving of manna was amazing. The giving of Your Holy Spirit and all He brings is amazing. Thank You for Your guidance and Your love.
