Numbers 17:5
“Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose. Then I will finally put an end to the people’s murmuring and complaining against you.”
God was protecting Moses. He was a special person through whom God was communicating much. God protects us also. Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.”
I’m not saying He is going to intervene in our squabbles and choose sides. Joshua 5:13, 14 says, ‘Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD.”‘ Joshua asked the wrong question. We need to align ourselves with God.
Yet in another sense, God is for us. Romans 8:31 says, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?” We can count on Him to protect us.
This is a great comfort. We can rest in the fact that however complicated a problem is, He will help us. We can trust that He and His resources are at work.
It helps when we are walking in submission to His lordship. When we stray and create all sorts of drama on our own, He will help us. There will be consequences that will come that may be embarrassing. He won’t undo that. He may minimize it or possibly erase it. It may be a lesson we need. Yet, as we submit to Him, He can work it out for the good.
Once again, it is a great comfort to know He is with us. Much like a father will still help his child, even when He’s made errors. He isn’t disowned. Nor will the father harm the other child. He will support His.
Lord, thank You that You’ve got our backs. We pray You would help unwind the messes we make and continue to be with us.
