Don’t Despise the Day of Small Beginnings

Zachariah 4:10

“For who has shown contempt for the day of small things? But these seven will rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel—they are the eyes of the LORD roaming throughout the earth.”

Zerubbabel has the task of rebuilding the temple. An enourmos project. I can understand getting overwhelmed with it. I want to spend time on the first question, despising the day of small beginnings. Those days are the ones where the builder would get discouraged. They have got so long to go.

Every project, dream or life goes through these stages. God is seeking to encourage us through it. Part of the lesson is to keep going. When we stop and see the largeness and how we have gone nearly no where, discouragement can seep in. Keep moving.

Another problem is where we keep our gaze. We need to use the eyes of faith. Philippians 1:6 gives us a good promise, “being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is a force behind us. As long as we are walking in obedience, He will help us complete the task. Very true with the temple. He does so much in the process. This is a big deal. We need the eyes of faith to keep up the work and a good attitude.

Instead of despising the beginning, we can praise Him at all phases. Those who have walked with Christ for years understand this better. They have seen God bring them through many stages and projects. We know He will do it. So, if the stage be the start or the middles, we know He will do it. So, praise Him.

He uses us to work in and through our lives, but in the bigger picture He is building His kingdom. He is our Lord, we are His servants. He is building His kingdom. Not that we are such a big deal, it’s just that we are His children. We are His. Thank You!

Lord, help us with all in our lives. Thank You, as we know You will. You are building Your kingdom as You help us. Regardless if it be the beginning, the middle or the end. You are there with us. Thank You!
