The Greatest Show …..in Heaven. Pt I

Hebrews 8:5  “Who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things”

I wanted to spend some time talking about Heaven. Our culture shallowly thinks of clouds and harps, inwhich we all wear togas. This is unfortunate, as that picture doesn’t appeal to anyone. I’ve got some thoughts about Heaven that I wanted to put on paper. Some are scriptural and others are based on my concepts of God’s goodness.
Heaven will be better than earth. That is a great place to start, because this place is wonderful. The ocean, Half Dome, the Grand Tetons, Sedona, Yellowstone, Niagra Falls, the billowy clouds of Albuquerque are just some of God’s handy work. Heaven will be better. Whenever we see one of these places, we pause in awe. The beauty of Heaven will inspire this in us daily. We are finite, so we have difficulty seeing how God can improve on earth.
What about activities and recreation? God created us to thrive on these. He gave us the appetite for adventure and thrill, so we play sports,  ride motorcycles, surf and more. If we have these same drives in Heaven, the activities will be incredible: bungie jumping, hang gliding with no injuries. I saw the movie “127 Hours” a few years back. Before the guy got stuck, he was mountain biking on beautiful red rock hills. I thought, “I bet that will be in Heaven”. God may change our interests, but we can be sure that whatever they are, the action to fulfill it will be great.
Another great joy in life is eating. He created this appetite, along with all the great foods to satisfy. Revelation refers to the marriage supper of the lamb. Reference is also made to a fruit tree that bears several different types of fruit. Some foods are so satisfying that we almost want to close our eyes to enjoy it. An orange can shock the taste buds with juicy goodness. Heavens food will be better.
Whenever I feel joy, I breath a thank you to God. I need to further take thatthought to Heaven and wonder how much better it will be. How will this joy be up there? Just thinking about the last few days these are some of my joys: hearing a student’s funny comment, seeing the misty rain, hearing a great song on the radio, affectionate cat and playful dogs, a great workout, and more.
Thank You, Lord, for these and keep giving us insights about Heaven.
