Walking Well

Ephesians 4:1
“Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called”.

This new life is more than possible as we have the Holy Spirit. John 16:13a says, "However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth". He guides us, He empowers us, He loves us.
There are many onramps to the wrong way. Matthew 7:14 says, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it". The wrong way is the self serving one. It's the self indulgent one. To enter God's way is described this by Jesus, "Then Jesus told His disciples, 'If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me'", (Matthew 16:24). This has some difficulty, but the reward is great. Yes there is some self denial and that is rarely enjoyable. However, we become freed from sin, filled with joy, get to know God, get to be led by God and used by Him and so on.
In time we learn that to obey Him is the best way. In a interesting way, it's more self serving to deny ourselves as the riches we get far out way our petulant demanding our way. Life in God is so good and so rich, it reminds me of Psalm 126:2, 'Then our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them"'.
Lord, thank You for empowering us to walk well. Thank You for the blessings You bring as we do so.
