Ephesians 3:20
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,”
The longer we walk with God, the greater our faith and imagination grows. We get this by experience. God wants to do incredible things in and through us. We need to yield to Him first, before this is to happen. As we do this, He will bring about things that we would have never imagined.
One of the fantastic story in the bible is about Gideon. He was self described to be the least of the least family in Israel, when an angel comes to him. He was trying to hide while dealing with food prep. It’s at that time when an angel calls him a mighy warrior. He ends up being a national hero, as he musters an army to drive off the philistines. I’m not sure of Gideon’s life path, but I’m confident it didn’t include that.
Today’s passage says that God wants to do more than we can ask or think. I can think of some fairly big dreams. But they are nothing comparied to His plans. If we knew too far in advance, we would probably get nervous. He works in us on a ‘need to know’ basis. We would get in the way and try to fulfill things ourselves, if to knew too much. It’s amazing the amount of character building and preparation that are required to do particular tasks. We need to grow into roles.
I think of professional athletes. They are catapulted into fame and riches almost immediately. But their character isn’t always there, due to their young age (22ish). They often end up getting into things that are harmful or unwise.
God is all about the preparation. He will never put us in a role that we aren’t ready for. We may not feel ready, but He knows.
God working His will in and through us is part of what makes this life a thrill. When we think of a thrill we think of extreme sports, etc. While those are cool, God wants to do “abundantly beyond all that we ask or think”. Not just beyond, but abundantly beyond. Just as Gideon lived an extreme life in God, so He wants to do cool things in and through us. We won’t be grabing headlines, but our personal faith and actions will be “quite a ride”.
Lord, thank You for Your interest in us. Your patience and investment in us is remarkable. Help us to be courageous enough to yield to Your leadings.
