I Thessalonians 5:24
“Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”
The previous verse included Paul’s wish that we be sanctified entirely and that we be kept blameless until Christ’s coming. This is something all of us want. We fear we may run into distractions, temptations or lethargy. Then comes today’s verse. God is faithful and will bring it to pass.
Doubts flood in when I read these passages. Yes, God is faithful, but people still fall away. We have a free will that allows for it. I allow this verse that’s intended to bring comfort to be powerless . The problem is mine. How do I repair it?
We should take it on faith. While we could allow dozens of reasons to keep this promise from helping us. However, we are encouraged to trust His faithfulness.
Faithfulness speaks of being reliable. If He says He will sanctify us, He’ll do it. If He says He will keep us blameless, then He’ll do it. We need to allow those facts to eclipse our fears. There will be bumps along the way. Yet He promises to do it. It’s meant to encourage us. Trust Him and allow it to do so.
There are many things that we rely on. We expect the sun to rise in the morning. There aren’t any fears about that. We should have the same confidence that He’ll keep us. Drive out all shred of doubt.
One way to demonstrate our trust is to be thankful. We can do this when we feel concern. Our trust can break through. It’s ok if we don’t feel it. Continue to give thanks. We don’t see the plant grow immediately. So our trust takes time go bear fruit.
Lord, thank You that You are faithful. Thank You that You will keep us blameless.
