His Coming Should Draw Us Closer to Him

Morning Journal
I Thessalonians 5:2
“For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.”

The last entry spoke to the surprise nature of Jesus’ second coming. We addressed the fact that the Lord does that for the purpose of bringing many to Him. It has done so throughout the millennia.
How should the second coming affect us as believers? While we are redeemed and will be with Him how should the surprise affect us? We should take seriously our walk with Christ. Do we spend time in His Word? Do we pray? Do we leave room for His direction? Do we go to church? Are we serving others in some type of ministry? This is letting His “kingdom come” in our daily lives.
Living this way aligns our life more like it will be in heaven. The longer we walk with Christ the closer we get to Him. Back in WW II soldiers would be set up with girls by being pen pals. Much can be learned this way. Yet, a day comes when phone calls are added to the relationship. This raises the level of connection. In our present time, skiping could be next. Finally the soldier comes home and the couple is together. The writing and talking is like our relationship with God as we read the Bible and pray. This meeting is like us going to heaven. We should have spent a life communing with the Lord.
When we arrive in heaven, we shouldn’t be strangers with God. 2 Peter 1:11 says, “for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.” We shouldn’t just squeak by with no one knowing us. He says our entrance should be abundant. Like a homecoming party for a soldier. It should be like a celebration of a loved one coming home.
Lord, help us to take our relationship with You seriously. Let us invest in it by reading and praying and more. Let it be like the pen pal relationship in which we are getting closer each day.
