Hold Fast

Deuteronomy 30:20
“by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

I like the phrase “holding fast to Him”. This acknowledges we see Him as The Way and that He is our source of help and hope. I picture one holding on to a post during a hurricane. If he let’s go, he’s lost.
We hold fast, because He is the Way. Jesus says this in John 14:6, “…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” God isn’t being picky. Sin had to be dealt with by blood sacrifice. Only Jesus was eligible, as He lived a perfect life and He was strong enough to bear the sins of the world. It’s demonstrates God’s great love for us.
We hold fast, because He can help us. He created us, this great world and all that’s in it. It’s easy for Him to help us. We have situations that distress us. He can help. We have personal struggles that plague us. He can help. We are in relationships that have soured. He can give us the strength or heal them.
He rarely helps in the way we think He should. Instead of changing the situation, He will help us to cope. This is part of learning to trust Him. He know what’s best for us.
We hold fast, because He is our hope. Jesus was speaking some words that turned off the crowd. They left. Jesus turned and said to His disciples, “Do you want to leave also?” “Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
Lord, help us to hold fast to You. Thanks that You are The Way, our help and hope.
