Deuteronomy 30:9
“Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers.”
The last time we discussed spiritual prosperity. The Lord wants all of us to have it. At times, it might not always feel that way, as He uses life’s difficulties to work godly character within.
The next type of prosperity would be our health. I Corinthians 6:19 tells us that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit.
Here’s a list of proverbs relating to health: 14:30, “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones”, 3:8, (fearing The Lord)” will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones”, 17:22, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”
Why is it we encounter health issues? Health is a general principal. We will all encounter health issues, even though we are following Christ. Sin can make us unhealthy, as one of the previous proverbs indicated. However, being sick doesn’t mean we have sinned (John 9:1,2). Difficult things happen in which we have no reason.
What’s our attitude to be if we ill? We are to trust The Lord. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”. He will somehow use it. These times build our character and can bring comfort to others (2 Corinthians 1:4).
What’s our part with our health? Because our bodies are God’s temples, we should take care of them. This refers to eating properly, exercise and taking care of ourselves. This is responsible behavior.
Thanks Lord that You want us healthy. Help us to do our best in our own self care. Keep us from injury and disease. Help us through them if or when they come.
