The Cost/Benefit of Knowing God.

Exodus 34:19 “All that openeth the womb is mine; and all thy cattle that is male, the firstlings of cow and sheep.”
God called Abe apart. He made a covenant with him and his descendants. They were committed to one another. God redeemed the entire nation from Egypt. Now they are entering a more specific covenant. God wants the first of the womb. If it be animal or human, the people are to dedicate that to God.
We, as christians, also belong to God. We are not our own. We didn’t have to pay for salvation, but to get it we had to make Him our lord. We are to abide by the commandments, love one another and follow His leadings.  We are in a covenant relationship, just like the Hebrews. We commune with Him through His Word, prayer, teaching from our pastors and encouragement from our friends.
When someone marries and starts a family, they also are in several relationships. They are in a relationship with the spouse. They are also in relationship with their children. These limit one’s freedoms. However, they produce great meaning. We gain our significance from these.
These relationships also provide protection. Being in a family keeps us from many situations that are compromising. Being in a relationship with God keeps us safe on many levels. The christian lifestyle keeps us away from bad environments. Also, we are being guided by the living God. He sees danger and guides us away or warns us.
We are in a covenant relationship with God that costs us. But the rewards and returns are wonderful. Thank You, Lord.
