Deuteronomy 30:6
“Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.”
This verse comes after The Lord restoring those who have strayed from Him. He says He will circumcise our hearts, also. This concept is addressed all throughout the bible.
Deuteronomy 10:16 says, “So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer.” This process is the removal of our stubborn willfulness. We feel as though we know better. We don’t understand His love or His wonderful plans for us.
Psalm 32:9 provides a great example of the uncircumcised heart. “Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, Otherwise they will not come near to you.” At times God has to guide us with the bit. We aren’t listening. It can be abrupt.
The Lord wants us to have a trusting relationship. Jeremiah 24:7 says, “‘I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.” A child learns to trust a loving parent. There is plenty of crying in the process. So, we are to trust Him.
It’s to be a walk of faith. Animals have instincts. They don’t have the capacity to grow in faith. We aren’t to be driven by our wants and needs. We are to grow in faith. Our direction is guided by higher purposes. Even though we don’t feel something to be so, if God said it, we are to believe it.
I’ve heard the phrase, “the fog of war.” It speaks of chaos. One’s senses get confused. They are to stick to the plan and listen to their leaders. We may feel guilty, yet we are to trust His forgiveness. It’s above any human concept of fairness. We can’t pay it back.
The Lord circumcises our hearts which gives us the understanding and ability to trust Him. Our new self trusts Him. It’s not too great a task.
Lord, thanks that You circumcise our hearts. Help us to rise above the natural to live and walk with You. Even though the fog of guilt, etcetera surrounds us, help us to trust You.
