Deuteronomy 26:17
“You have today declared the LORD to be your God, and that you would walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments and His ordinances, and listen to His voice.”
Last we referred to the new christian walking in His ways. Much unlearning has to be done. Today we’ll talk about how we know which of His ways we are to focus on.
God wants to lead us. Romans 8:14 says, “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” It’s in a way that He designs for us. It isn’t the next generic area.
The topic is walking in His ways. When I think of this, it’s more how something is done rather than what is done (it could certainly be both). The fruit of the Spirit is listed in Galatians 5:22,23: “…love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” His ways are evidenced by these.
How does this happen? Everyday is the same, but we might become aware of our impatience. Someone may respond in a manner that tells us we could have done better. Sometimes we get defensive. We bring it all to The Lord. Help us to do better.
It’s not a change of personality. An introvert doesn’t turn into an extrovert. It’s the rough edges are worn off. He builds a sensitivity within us. He gives us a compassion that fits who we are.
In time we become more Christ like. It can be said of us that which was said of the disciples, “they recognize them as having been with Jesus…”, Acts 4:13. I think of the chorus of a christian song from the 70’s, “they will know we are christians by our love.” This is what it means to walk in His ways.
Lord, thanks that You work within us. You teach us Your ways. Help us to walk in them.
