1 Thessalonians 1:4
“knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you”.
This will never get old. God chose us. We are on His team. We have proximity to Him. We can be as close as we want. 1 John 2:14 says, “I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning”. All christians know God, so why does John say that the adults in Christ know Him? It’s experience. Today’s focus will be a blessing of our being chosen, knowing His love and grace.
The longer we walk with Christ, the better we know Him. Part of knowing Christ is correcting errors in our concepts of God. One example is understanding the love and grace of God. That’s because it’s not natural. He is so accepting and forgiving. There isn’t a human equal.
We can’t learn about God’s love from our experience. Our responses and reactions to others can be impatient. Particularly before we have raised children. These reactions don’t inform us about God’s patience. If we were to transfer this knowledge to God, we would think He is impatient with us.
We can’t learn about God’s love from nature. Naturalistic religions that base their beliefs off the wild believe in gods that are harsh. They create idols with angry faces to scare off evil spirits. We have a tendency to lean towards anger or fear. If we tried to construct our understanding of God’s love and grace from nature, it wouldn’t be close.
We learn about God’s love through the bible and it’s application in our daily walk with Him. I referenced John calling mature christians fathers (or adults). These have spent years learning of His love and grace and experiencing in a daily walk. It can be seen on their faces and in their actions. The rough edges get warn off as one becomes more like the one who chose them.
Lord, thanks for choosing us. Help us to learn of Your love and grace.
