Dealing with Restrictions

Deuteronomy 18:14
“For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so.”

We have the Ten Commandments and some restrictions from the New Testament. There are things that we aren’t to do. God has chosen to provide some restrictions.

This is a very permissive way to give guidance. By offering restrictions, He opens everything else to us. We are free to do most things. If He would have given a list of things we could do, by inference all the non mentioned items would be restricted.

This is another demonstration of His love for us. He wants us to be mature and self guided.

That being said, there are things that He “has not allowed” us to do. To follow Christ, we need to submit to His lordship. He is patient and will work with us. He doesn’t bring everything up at once.

He may prompt us to avoid something that isn’t generally restricted. He will bring something up years into our walk with Him that we are to set aside.

These restrictions are for our protection. If it be the general restrictions or the personal promptings, they are for our benefit. It might feel frustrating. However, it’s part of Him improving us.

Lord, thank You for Your work in us. Help us to be compliant.
