Representing

2 Peter 2:2
“And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

There’s a phrase which contains the word “representing”. It may be that someone may be representing their group, school, town, family, and so on. It means what it sounds like. We stand in place of our group. You can learn much about my friends (family, group) by looking at me.

It’s a big responsibility to represent. We tend to try more in those situations. The reputations of others are bolstered (or not) by our actions. A sports team represents their coaching staff. They may be disciplined, have great endurance, good attitudes and maximize their talent. The converse may also be true. The may be cheats, poor sports and argumentative. A coaching program is reflected by their athletes.

We are God’s representatives. 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.” An ambassador represents and speaks for a country. We do the same for God.

This is a great responsibility. People will judge God based on our actions and words. This is how it works to represent. The Lord wants it that way. It’s responsibility on our part. We are to take it seriously.

Today’s verse is an example of bad representation. “The way of the truth” was blasphemed because of bad representation.

The Corinthian verse speaks of God’s desire to reach out and connect with people, “be reconciled to God.” We should think of that as we live our days. This doesn’t mean we have to be perfect. We need to trust in The Lord.

We are to be real. We may be going through a tough time. We will be burdened. All those watching will resonate with that. We are to trust in God and see what He does with that. It may have the “hoped for” outcome, it may not. The trust and peace we have communicates to the onlookers.

Lord, help us to be good representatives for You.
