Deuteronomy 14:2
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”
The Lord chose Israel out of all the peoples of the earth. This didn’t mean the rest of the population went to hell. God loved them and was fair. That’s not part of the recorded story. He had a plan to reach the whole world and Israel was the people that He was going to work through.
God chose us. Ephesians 1:4 says, “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love.” We need to celebrate this. It’s a big deal. We’re on His team. Jesus said in John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose You…”
We often don’t focus on this because we let our misunderstanding get in the way. We think, “what about all the rest of the people? Is that fair” We shouldn’t worry for all anyone has to do is accept Christ. Romans 10:13 says,
for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” If anyone wants to be chosen, then they should choose God.
God has explained as much as He’s going to. We need to rest on the fact that He loves all and wants everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).
Today’s passage says that we are His own possession. Just like a collector finally gets a prized item. We are His. Jeremiah 13:3 says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” We should rejoice in this.
Lord, thank You that You have chosen us. Help us to be grateful.
