The Blessing of His Word

I2 Chronicles 34:30
“The king went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites, and all the people, from the greatest to the least; and he read in their presence all the words of the Book of the Covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.”
I’ve learned that one of the greatest blessings we can share with others is God’s Word. The king heard it and was changed, so he shares it with all the people. This works a couple of ways. First off, it’s His message to us. He’s God and we are His creation. We should be interested in what He has to say.
Another reason is the transformative power of His Word. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” His Word is living and active. It points things out that we wouldn’t have known.
The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13) illustrates this. Here it is in a paraphrased form; the seed is God’s Word. As we hear it it is planted in our hearts. It grows and we are excited. Unfortunately there are several states of the heart which choke it off; business, anxiety and the devil stealing it. This happens to believers and unbelievers. We have to tend the soil of our hearts, otherwise it will wither and die.
Busyness ignores God’s Word. It doesn’t take the time to allow growth. We need to see it for what it is, a great pearl given from God. Tend the soil, pay attention to it. Water it and it will grow.
The next problem is anxiety. We all have it, we can’t allow it to govern our hearts. Matthew 6:25-30 says, “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span? And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you?” As we read His Word it points out our worry. We are to obey and trust Him.
The next problem is the devil. He will steal God’s Word from our hearts. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” As we submit to God and resist the devil he will flee from us. To submit to God means that we obey the things He tells us. Whenever He shares His truth there is an action point. We are to obey it. Our understanding can be limited, so it seems too difficult. Pray and ask for help.
To resist the devil means to avoid His ways. That would be all the sin and the temptation he offers. Avoiding those is resisting Him. God’s way is a highway. Try to stay in the center. As we get to the extremes we are closer to the devil. He will hit us with a branch or some pot hole he puts in our way. Stay in the center to avoid the devil.
Being in God’s Word leads to our regeneration and adoption in Him. We become His child and the blessings begin. We get a blessed life. Thank You Lord.
