The Blessing of His Word

2 Chronicles 34:14
“When they were bringing out the money which had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD given by Moses.”
A great principle of God is that when we give, He blesses. This verse is an immediate answer. Here Josiah had a collection of money to restore the temple. In the process of cleaning and organizing the Book of the Law was found. They had just struck gold. Josiah had a heart toward God, but lacked His Word and had little understanding.
The kings father didn’t fear God. His grandfather reigned in a godless way. He did repent towards the end. We have no evidence of interest in the Law with either of them. Josiah’s immediate influences weren’t in God’s Word.
The scriptures give us wisdom as to how to connect with God and what He’s like. It’s a pearl of great price. More than that, it’s alive. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” We see how it grows in our hearts in the parable of the sower.
What does the Word do? The end of the Hebrews passage says “It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” It turns on the light. We see bad motives and sinful thoughts. He doesn’t point out all our problems at once. Usually one at a time with space in between. He focuses in and does some surgery. We have to be on board and give permission, otherwise He wouldn’t do the healing.
God’s use of His Word is amazing. The king has no idea what’s in store for him and the people. The Lord is about to bless them in amazing ways. It brings salvation, healing, right relationships, good practices and so on. The best part is that we get to know God. He adopts us as Father and leads us in His ways. It’s a wonderful life.
We become a child of the King. Romans 8 says that His Spirit bears witness with our spirits that we are His children. We feel him. This is reassuring. It’s meant to comfort us and to let us know that He’s there. This would be so great for many that suffer loneliness, anxiety, and so on.
His Word guides us. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” As we read His Word we learn what to avoid and what to gravitate towards. As we have His Word in us it becomes alive, a part of us and a means by which He works and communicates with us.
It’s a constant thing that I feel His guidance. Both ways, to stop or to go. Also a caution. The God of the universe is in us guiding us. There is no better mentor program.
Through His Word He talks to us. His Word is/are His Words. It’s His message to us. This is in a general sense as it’s His Word to everyone. It’s also His Word to us. He uses it to comfort us, warn us and so on. We hear God. We are so insignificant amongst the billions in the world and amongst all who have ever lived. Yet, we are important to Him.
Thank You, Lord, for Your Word. Such a blessing, such a wonder. You comfort us, You guide us and will be with us forever with the promises of Your Word. Thank You.
