The Sun Shines on the Good and the Bad

Matthew 5:44,45
“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may prove yourselves to be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
The last part of these verses speak of God’s general treatment of people. All get the good and the bad. If it be weather or other circumstances. That’s His fairness and love. Sometimes this is great other times not so. The difference is whether we submitted to Him or not.
When we come to Christ He adopts us as His child. Everything changes. His purpose enters our lives. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.” So, even though we get the rain and the tough times His power, love and wisdom makes the bad into good. How? He uses them as character builders. They become the very things we need to be stronger, wiser and more loving. It’s like teaming with a high priced consultant. His expertise brings much.
We are to be grateful for His work in our lives. More than that we are to praise Him for it. James 1:2,3 says, “Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
When we were outside of Christ we were withering. Some of our paths weren’t good. We had sin in our lives and we were doing things we regret. Psalm 37:1,2 says, “Do not get upset because of evildoers, Do not be envious of wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like the grass”.
God wants all of us in His family. He reaches out to everyone. If we ignore Him we become deaf to Him. When we do this we become prone to error and foolishness (Romans 1). It’s best to submit to Him and go His way. Wonderful things await.
Lord, thank You for the rain and the sun. You have blessed us so.
