Signs

2 Chronicles 32:24-26
“In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill; and he prayed to the LORD, and the LORD spoke to him and gave him a sign. But Hezekiah did nothing in return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem. However, Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.”
God “gave Him a sign”. I believe God still does this. A lot. Sometimes they come in the way of warnings, like today’s example. They come in the form of “I love you’s”. Unbelievers think this as well. Because many don’t believe the bible, their examples are way out there. He created us to be in relationship with Him. We expect some sort of communication.
God will communicate with unbelievers for the purpose of drawing them to Him. If they ignore Him, these signs would probably lessen. He would love to do more, they are in a state of sin going to an eternity apart from Him. It’s imperative that they be rescued.
Many of these signs are to close a door. It doesn’t mean I’m headed toward sin, just not in a direction He wants me to go. Acts 16:6-9 gives us an example of God directing signs, ‘They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, after being forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them; and passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and pleading with him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”’
Sometimes these signs are road blocks trying to protect us. It could be from sin or danger. I rarely know the reason I’m redirected. I’m grateful for it. God’s love for us is far greater than we can imagine. David says, “How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You”, (Psalm 139:17,18).
We were created to be loved. From others and God. The love of others is helpful, but it doesn’t make up for the need to be loved by Him. It’s deep, complete and constant. David knew it and was blessed by it. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God”. It’s reassuring and loving. We’ve got that all the time. Amazing.
Lord, thank You for Your signs. Signs of warning, protection and love. Thank You!
