We Worship Him

2 Chronicles 7:3
‘All the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the LORD upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the LORD, saying, “Certainly He is good, certainly His faithfulness is everlasting.”’
Worship is the proper response to God’s revelation. This type of revelation is rare. Other types of revelation are experienced by all. Romans 1:19,20 says, “For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.” God reveals Himself to all through creation. The marvelous wonder of the design of all living things is obvious. Like seeing a great work of art or an impressive building, one can’t help but be impressed. We are to give Him His proper admiration.
God is seeking worshippers. John 4:23 says, “But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.”
God isn’t seeking to impress us. We should be, it’s the right thing to do. He wants us. He wants to know us and He wants us to know Him. This is a win for us. He wants to forgive us, to heal us, to walk with us and guide us. We are hurting and broken. We need Him. He offers Himself and all of that to any of us.
David describes all that God does for us in Psalm 23. He’s our Shepherd, He makes us lie down in lush places, He brings us to cool water where it’s safe, He leads us, He prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies, He guides us in righteousness, He’s with us in tough times, He helps us not be afraid and goodness and mercy will follow us all our days. This is quite a deal. We worship Him for this good treatment.
He wants us to know Him. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone opens the door I will come in and sup with him and he with Me.” This is an opportunity to fellowship. This is how we get to know someone. We have a meal. This is worthy of worship. That He would want to associate with us. This is flattering. We are quite insignificant. No matter. He still wants to. We worship Him.
He wants to have a constant connection with us. Romans 8:15,16 says, ‘For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.’ We sense Him. It’s wonderful and a privilege. It’s satisfying and so peaceful.
Pastor Chuck Smith would say the most sincere form of worship is when we experience wonder. We see a sunset, a rainbow, we are provided for and so on. Give thanks then when we feel it. He gives us many opportunities to do so.
All of this is possible because of the sacrifices He has made. All the preparation and expectations given in the Old Testament. Jesus’ arrival, His sinless life, His amazing example, His wonderful teachings and His death and resurrection. He took our place in punishment. So we can be forgiven. Thank You.
He has adopted street orphans. Took us in and made us sons and daughters. Raised us and made us feel welcome. You’ve taught us, use us to bless others. Thank You.
Thank You, God, for all that You’ve done and all You will do. It’s so much. You’ve made us part of the family. We worship You.
