I Chronicles 17:16
‘Then King David came in and sat before the LORD, and said, “Who am I, LORD God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?”‘
All believers can say this. If we have walked with Christ, He has poured out blessings upon blessings. Not to the extent of David. However, it’s far more than we deserve. It’s like we have a rich uncle who gives generously to us.
Material things may come to mind. He does bless some with riches. But all could say that we have enough. He does bless us with contentment. David said in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.” He does provide for us, but He also gives us a content heart. This is big. For want can drive us crazy. Proverbs 14:14 says, “The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above.”
This is a special time for David. God spoke of great blessings to him and his descendants. He was filled with awe. We all have these times. David’s response of gratitude and sitting before God is the proper thing. I can recall pastor Chuck saying the most sincere time of thanksgiving is when we are in the moment. Stop and give thanks.
The greater blessings are those of character and gifting. He makes us what we never could have been on our own. David says in Psalm 119:99, “I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.” The world doesn’t understand God’s ways. They are foolishness to them. But if we follow Him, we become the wise ones.
He also blesses our path. He provides circumstances that we would never have encountered. It may be a career path. This and the myriad of circumstances of blessing.
He will use us to bless others. He gives us the good news that could bring others on His path. He has loved us and given us that love and encouragement to share with others. He fills us with the fruit of the Spirit, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control”. We share those as we go throughout our days.
My selfishness was destroying me. It was driving my friends away. My ways were hurting me and others. But then He called me and the rest sounds like Psalm 40:2, “He lifted me up from the pit of despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm.”
Thank You, Lord. Your goodness has been abundant.
