Be Generous

2 Kings 7:9
‘Then they said to one another, “We are not doing the right thing. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent about it; if we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now then come, let’s go and inform the king’s household.”
These guys came upon the spoils left by the enemy camp. God had made the soldiers hear the sounds of horses and chariots, so they fled. These guys came upon it and started to hoard the valuables. Then they said today’s verse.
God blesses us to be a blessing. We’ve got more than enough. David said, “My cup overflows. How does He bless us? With joy, contentment, wisdom, finances, and so on. God puts people in our path to encourage, advise and to give to.
The guys in the story initially hoarded the goods. That’s a natural reaction. Their guilty conscience is also natural. They were living in a famine. Many were hurting and starving. It would have been sin not to share. They recognized that.
We have a natural instinct to hoard. Like kids grabbing candy from a piñata. But as we are feasting on our candy, we see those hungrily looking on, so we share.
God wants us to be generous. He loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).
We can be anxious about having enough. That’s natural. God wants us to trust Him for our sustenance. We do it by faith, knowing He will take care of our needs.
When we give, He fills us with joy. It’s how it works. Thank You, Lord for teaching us to be generous. Thank You, also for filling our needs. You are good.
