Ephesians 5:30
“because we are parts of His body.”
Most people have felt left out from time to time. The common story was not being chosen until the end of a recess game in elementary school. Being chosen of God is the great equalizer. He chose us.
Election is the biblical doctrine of God choosing some. It’s difficult to understand, as it seems to imply that there are some that He hasn’t chosen. Yet, John 12:32 says, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw everyone to Myself.” He attempts to draw everyone, but not all comply.
Due to the difficulty, some choose not to think on it. That’s a mistake. Rejoice in it. We’re on His team and we’re gonna win. He chose us to be part of His body. That’s awesome.
That is quite a self esteem builder. Not because we are something special, just the fact we are on His team. Luke 10:20 says, “Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” It’s awesome to be used of God and to see His power. It’s far better that our names are written in heaven.
I can recall first knowing that I was saved. A weight was lifted off. It was a great joy. I began to talk to others about God. I can recall talking to a teacher in high school about Him. God was on my mind. He began to steer me away from my friend group. I began to associate with those that were seeking God. They were also “parts of His body”.
I John 3:14 says, “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.” Believers become our friends. We minister together, we relate to each other. Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.” We make each other better.
You give us a tremendous sense of purpose to be a part of Your body. We all like to have meaning. Celebrities refer to their causes. They understand the human desire for purpose. Petra’s song, Road to Zion has this lyric, “Sometimes it’s good to look back down, we’ve come so far, we’ve gained such ground. But hope is not in where we’ve been. Hope is whose waiting at the end.”
How do we know what to do? Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might, for in Sheol, where you are going, there is no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.” This verse takes away the grandiose thoughts and teaches us to be a servant in whatever task that’s before us.
We gain a new family as a member of the body of Christ. One may have had a dysfunctional one. But in Christ, we have those that love us and we all care for each other.
Lord, thank You for the blessing of being part Your body. You give us a family, a purpose, and so on. Thank You, Lord.
