God is Light

Ephesians 5:13
“But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.”
I John 1:5 says, “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” God is light. Genesis speaks of the sun, moon and stars bringing light, but God created them. Light is a characteristic of God that existed before those.
Where ever God goes, He brings light. As we come to Christ, He enters our lives and brings light. Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” Because of Him we are small lights.
Light illuminates. It helps us to see our way, it exposes words on a page. It’s helpful. God’s illumination brings answers and gives wisdom. We are also light, so we also are helpful, bring answers and give wisdom.
We are light because of Him and we are light to the degree that we are plugged into Him. God wants us to spend time with Him. David the psalmist gave us a great example of how to do this. He did it through His Word, the bible. He spent time in fellowship with God. I can imagine him shepherding sheep, alone in the pasturelands. He used those opportunities to get to know Him.
We also are to have a relationship with God. We also read the bible and connect with Him. Many do it in the quiet of the morning. Some do it at night or when it works for them. Paul said in Acts 17:28, “for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’” God is with us every where we go and in every thing we do. He wants to commune with Us all day long. We get charged up like a solar light. When it gets dark, we emit light. If we fail to connect with Him, our light dims and will go out.
Jesus said to let our lights shine, (Matthew 5:15). How do we do this? One way is involuntary. Because we are connected to Christ, we automatically emit light. Someone may be blessed or encouraged by us and we are unaware. Other times it’s our words or deeds. A scripture may come to mind and we speak it. We usually don’t know the effect this has on someone. They do and God does. He may reveal those things in heaven. Maybe those who heard and were blessed will share.
There are times when light isn’t received. Jesus said in John 1:5, “And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not grasp it.” Some times people aren’t open. One may have hardened their heart and have become dull of hearing (Hebrews 5:11). Jesus cried out, “If anyone has ears, let him hear”, (Mark 4:23). If God makes a connection with us, don’t ignore it. It’s like following a vein of gold. We are to continue to dig until we’ve exhausted it. It might come at an inconvenient time, be careful to hang on to it. Whatever God sought to communicate may come back, but it may not. Christians and non Christians can miss His messages. Let us be those that hear and receive.
The devil has corrupted the use of the word light. I have found that if a group uses the word light in their title, they are usually not orthodox. Of course this is a generalization, but the group is usually a cult, christian or not.
I John 1:7 says, “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We are to walk in the Light. How do we do that? It’s walking according to His Word. We live in obedience to it. Our consciences or His nudging keeps us in the light. It’s a blessing to do so. That’s how we stay out of trouble.
Lord, thank You that You are light and Your light has blessed us. Help us to stay in Your light. Thank You for what Your light has done for us. Help us to be a light to others.
