2 Samuel 22:1
“David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.”
David is getting advanced in years. He was in combat in the previous chapter and almost killed. One of the verses said how he was getting exhausted. Battle is a young man's game. David realized this when it was almost too late. Some of his warriors surrounded him to protect him. Four of the philistines were descendants of Goliath who had vowed to kill David. This chapter is his song of praise for God delivering him.
We can sing a similar song. We have enemies which wish us ill. There are people in our lives, but also the devil and the demon world. Beyond this we've got our flesh and the world which is gravity against God and His ways. All this is against God and all of His children.
I'm convinced that we have been rescued many time in which we never were aware of. That's God and His angels working circumstances. There are also times when we were aware. We had to cry out for help. We could have fallen and who knows where that may have led. I shudder to think. He could have intervened there and brought us back.
From the vantage point of the present, I feel so safe and secure. Be thankful. There is a verse in a song that says, "Sometimes it's good to look back down. We come so far, we've gained much ground. But hope is not in where we've been. Hope is Who's waiting at the end", (Road to Zion). So much blessing and grace. David sees that. He's been rescued again. He's reflecting back from his palace. There was a time that he was on the run with all the forces of the army against him. God brought him here.
Thank You, Lord. I feel like David. I am no longer young. All the struggles prior have been resolved. I'm in a beautiful house, have great kids, am healthy, have good friends and a good job. My students appreciate me, my coworkers respect me. It's all God. Thank You, Lord.
