The Story

Ephesians 3:5
“which in other generations was not made known to mankind, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;”

When humanity fell God knew what He had to do to redeem them. It would require the greatest cost. He slowly unfolded the plan in the Old Testament. He worked through the nation of Israel as a type. Here's what I Peter 1:10-12 says about the prophets, "As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look."
My wife eagerly seeks information of all types. If I met with a friend, she'll ask many questions when I get home. If she's reading a book or watching a movies, she'll look up the ending. The prophets had a similar interest in the things they were prophesying about. Peter, the author of the above quote asked Jesus about another apostle in John 21:21,22, 'So Peter, upon seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!”' We all have curiosities about the future and God's plans. The end of Peter's quote says that even angels want to know.
God's story is a marvelous one. It's been called the greatest story ever told. Many have heard of it in basic details, but few understand it in entirety. In fact God is sensitive about sharing it completely with those who will reject it. Jesus said this in Matthew 7:6, “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
Matthew 13:13, "This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ God knows all of us. He gives each of us enough understanding to reach for more. If we do, He'll give more. If we don't, then the revelations cease. He will try again later.
God will engineer circumstances to get our attention. We might not be open now, however, if we experience an injury or some problem, then we might cry out to God. We see it as an unfortunate circumstance, while God may have sent it to wake us up. All of the sudden we are open again. The process of revelation starts again. As long as we respond to the revelations given, He gives more.
What is God revealing? The salvation message, how to get right with God. Revelation 3:20 says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man opens the door, then I will come in and sup with him and he with me." That is God's aim, a restored relationship that was broken at the fall. We are sinners in need of forgiveness. We are to confess our sin and receive His forgiveness.
Lord, thank You for the great sacrifices that You've done for our salvation. Such a wonderful story. Thank You for getting our attention and helping us stay focused to understand.
